Scotland for the Cup! Any Cup!

Went to see it last night in Dubai. the best bit about it was the cinema. Big leather armchairs with electric reclining functions, and buttons to call waiters to bring you drinks and food!

The movie? Bag o' sh**e! Awful. The rugby is laughable. The kickoffs are pathetic, they don't go 10 metres, every tackle is a shoulder charge, and the ref is the most ineffectual dullwit ever seen! The bit where he practically whispers apologetically "too many players diving in. please have a word with your men" actually made me laugh aloud.

Opportunity wasted. The only good bit was the footage of Lomu ripping apart the English, which looked like the original footage to me. As opposed to the guy playing Lomu in the film, who looked about 5'6" and as scary as me.

B***ard! Grin

Yep, I heard about that - but then again, it is not a rugby movie. Yes, Matt Damon took rugby classes from Pienaar himself (who must have been paid A LOT to do it, or maybr he just was in the mood for a good laugh), but.

the ref is the most ineffectual dullwit ever seen!

So, very realistic?

Lomu is played by Zak Feau'nati - probably the only real rugby player there Grin
OK, he played for Bath ZNIF and he was a number 8.
By the way, he is 1.88. Which is about 6'2". A bit shorter than The Man (1.96, 6'5" I think I remember), but then again.

Wow! He really didn't look anything like that tall in the film. Weird. But still just didn't have the sheer presence that Lomu used to have, especially back in the 1995 era, when he was at his peak.

And the ref was worse than a real ref! Yep, he was that bad!!!

It all depends on what you are expecting when you go to watch it. If you're looking to see a film about rugby then yes you will think its complete dross! because the rugby is a laughable! Prime example; Matt Damon playing Francois Pienaar! he's about a foot shorter and 5 stone lighter!

However if you want to see a docu-film about the effect that the Boks and Mandela had on a nation that was still devided then I think then you will enjoy it. I for one really enjoyed it and think that the story is a fantastic one!

This is what I heard too. Pish rugby but a good movie. And Freeman HAD to play Madiba, didn't he.

I knew it wasn't a film about rugby to be honest. I was interested to see the political effect that the world cup had on South Africa at the time (not at all prompted by the fact that I've been pursuing South African girl lately, honest Wink ). But I just think that if you are going to make a film with a rugby theme, at least try to get the rugby fairly accurate. The problem with this film is that the rugby is so badly handled that it keeps taking you out of the film. A good film should draw you in to every aspect of it, and should not have content which basically jumps off the screen and shouts "WOOHOO IT'S JUST PRETEND - THIS ISN'T REAL - JUST A MOVIE"! Wink
